GALLATIN COUNTY, MT — As another winter storm looms over the area, Gallatin County residents are starting to feel like they’re living in a Stephen King novel. The snow has been relentless this year, and with more of it on the way, people are starting to get a little stir-crazy.
Local resident, Jocelyn Taylor, says that she’s never seen anything like it. “It’s like we’re trapped in this never-ending snow globe. I keep waiting for someone to come shake us and make it stop, but it just keeps coming down.”
Many locals are starting to draw comparisons to the iconic horror movie, “The Shining,” where a family is isolated in a snowed-in hotel and starts to descend into madness. Gallatinonians have taken to social media to share their eerie similarities with the movie, including photos of snowdrifts piling up against their windows and memes of Jack Nicholson’s character with the caption “Here’s Bozeman!”
Despite the mounting snow and chilly temperatures, some residents are finding ways to enjoy the winter wonderland. Sledding, skiing, and snowshoeing are all popular pastimes in the area, and some people are even embracing the snowy landscape with outdoor snow sculptures and igloos.
But for others, the snow and isolation are starting to take a toll on their mental health. Local therapist, Dr. Emily Hayes, says that she’s been getting more calls from patients struggling with the weather conditions. “It’s a challenging time for many people, and the snow is just adding to that sense of isolation and confinement.”
As the winter storm continues to rage on, Gallatinites are bracing themselves for more snow and more Shining vibes. Let’s just hope that no one goes full Jack Torrance on us.
